Trail Etiquette & Safety
Before heading out:
While on the Trail:
- Make sure you have purchased your annual membership.
- Check the weather forecast and bring along proper clothing and equipment. When in doubt, dress in layers and remove as necessary.
- Sunlight can burn even on cold and cloudy days. Protect your skin and eyes from the sun and wind.
- Know your route. You may want to get a trail map to keep with you.
- Bring sufficient water with you to stay hydrated, and be on guard for signs of frostbite and hypothermia. If you start to feel any warning signs, get to someplace warm as soon as possible.
- Ski with a friend or your family. Otherwise, make sure you let someone know where you are and when you expect to return.
While on the Trail:
- Leave space between you and other skiers and alert others when you would like to pass.
- Do not obstruct ski trails or intersections. When stopped, step to the side out of tracks. If you fall, move off the track as quickly as possible.
- Respect trail closures; use only trails posted open and obey all posted signs.
- Carry out what you carry in. No littering!
- Stay on the trail. Do not cut switchbacks or create shortcuts.
- Share the trail. Watch and listen for others users, especially snowmobiles.
- Skate skiers should avoid classic tracks.
- Avoid walking on the groomed tracks.
- Clean up after your four-legged friend, no one wants to ski through poop.
- When two skiers meet head-on on a hill (even a gentle one), the skier going uphill should yield the right of way.
- When a faster skier catches up to a slower skier going the same direction, the slower skier should yield the right of way.
